Embark on an unforgettable journey off the beaten path in the mesmerizing Draa Valley, a hidden gem in Morocco. Unlike our other Sahara Desert itinerary, this region showcases a more rugged and rocky landscape, offering a unique and contrasting experience. While luxury upgrades are not available for this trip, you can expect an authentic adventure that takes you deep into the untamed beauty of the Sahara.
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Marrakech. The journey begins as we drive over the magnificent High Atlas Mountains, offering breathtaking views along the way. We will continue through the picturesque Draa Valley, known for its stunning palm groves and traditional villages. After a stop for lunch, we will reach our destination, Zagora, where you will spend the night in a charming bed and breakfast. If the weather is warm, you can relax in the shade of the gardens or take a refreshing dip in the pool.
Today, we will embark on a two-hour drive to the remote village of M’hamid. Along the way, we will stop at Tamegroute, a holy town famous for its ancient manuscripts and distinctive green pottery. From M’hamid, we will venture off-road for another two hours to reach Erg Chigaga, an enchanting region of the Sahara Desert. Here, you will spend the night under the mesmerizing starry sky, enjoying a delicious dinner in an alfresco setting. Your accommodation for the night will be a rustic Bedouin-style tent, with options available for both standard and deluxe camps.
After experiencing the wonders of Erg Chigaga, we will return to M’hamid, where you can freshen up before continuing our journey along the Draa Valley towards Skoura, often referred to as the “Valley of 1000 Kasbahs.” The drive will take approximately four to five hours. If you are up for it, we can arrange a walking tour of up to two hours in the beautiful palm valley oasis surrounding Skoura. In the winter months, we will spend the night in Ouarzazate.
Leaving Skoura behind, we will pass through the captivating city of Ouarzazate and visit the historic Ait Ben Haddou. You will have the opportunity to explore the Tamdakht Kasbah and, time and weather permitting, embark on an off-road excursion to Telouet. Our journey continues as we cross the impressive Tizi N Tichka mountain pass, revealing the majestic beauty of the High Atlas Mountains. Finally, we will arrive in Marrakech, where our adventure ends.
